There is nothing like a depressing beginning scene in a movie to completely change a lighthearted superhero film into a sad movie about the consequences of war. This short clip will be available on the DVD and Blu-Ray releases of the Avengers, along with tons of other deleted scenes, extras and other goodies. I am personally happy they didn't keep this particular scene in the movie, because after all the stuff the Avengers had to deal with, nothing ruins a mood better than the dirty political aftermath. Save that for the sequel.
It is a big change Katie. Having it start with a very downbeat opening could have ruined the film. Not that the whole film was shiny, but it didn't get too dark.
