Superman: The Musical (1975) Is Strange Indeed

This is the type of thing that you come across and inevitably wonder what the hell they were thinking. In 1975 Superman was turned into a made-for-TV movie. The best part of this is they thought it would be a good idea to make it a musical.

  1. Yes, but... the Dallas Theatre Center revived and *revised* this show in 2010, and it was fantastic. See a review here: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/04/theater/04superman.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=its%20a%20bird%20its%20a%20plane%20its%20superman%20dallas&st=cse. It was given a decent storyline with sparkling dialogue by a real comic book writer and playwright; and the songs were mostly retained and reorchestrated, a few new ones added. It was high-quality family entertainment. Every Superman and comic book fan should lobby their region theater troupes to put on the 2010 revised version, and hopefully one day we'll see it on Brodway!
