Did David Letterman Spoil The Dark Knight Rises?

The internet is all a buzz this morning, because David Letterman, in an interview with Anne Hathaway, was discussing The Dark Knight Rises and he may have possibly spoiled the ending for everyone.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

On Thursday, David Letterman, who is known for blurting out spoilers for popular movies, was discussing the Dark Knight Rises with Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman in the film. The movie has been kept under tight raps by Christopher Nolan, who is the writer, director and producer of the film. In the interview Letterman was discussing the film and said:

"It's not essential to watch previous installations of Batman, and I think this is it," He then continued by saying: "And in the end, Batman is dead."

There was an awkward pause and then Anne Hathaway said "Dave!" and then the two of them laughed it off.

Here are my thoughts on the matter: David Letterman is an a$$hole and he doesn't really care about a lot of things. Despite this, his show isn't live, it's taped and I really feel that if this was a huge mistake on his part it would have been edited out before being shown on TV. The interaction between Hathaway and Letterman also seemed fake, and I have a feeling that she was in on the joke somehow, perhaps to draw speculation and further media attention.

So what do you guys think? Does Batman die in Nolan's third installment? Or was David Letterman simply "joking"?
